Helen Carter in conversation with Maryanne Chapman

Local author Helen Carter will discuss her recently published book on shops and churches in Balmain and Rozelle in an interview format with Maryanne Chapman. The third in the series, Street Shopping and Worship examines some of the Balmain Peninsula’s missing shops and their vital link to Balmain’s social history and early churches. There is a close connection between retail shopping and religion.

The current book, Balmain Street Shopping & Places of Worship, will be available for sale and signing. Price $50.00. Helen’s other books will also be available on the night.

Thursday 12 February 2026, 6.30pm for 7pm start at the Balmain Town Hall Library (rear of the Town Hall).

Helen has lived in Balmain for the past 30 years and has published two other books about the Balmain Peninsula,  Death by Demolition: Lost Houses of Balmain Birchgrove and Rozelle and Balmain Peninsula Industrial Vandalism?: The Rise and Fall of its Early Industries.
