Journalist, historian, author, footballer, and most recently, Chair of the Australian Republican movement, Peter FitzSimons presented the case for an Australian Republic and why we should actively encourage our elected political representatives to pursue this goal.

The case for an Australian Republic finds support across the political and cultural diversity that is Australia today. Bill Shorten has pledged to pursue the ideal of Australia as a free standing Republic should he be elected Prime Minister at the next Federal election. Malcolm Turnbull has indicated that, “once bitten”, he is “twice shy” when it comes to again actively supporting an Australian Republic, but public opinion could change that.
