The Outlook for Syria
Professor Bob Bowker will explain the context of the problems confronting Syria, and other Middle Eastern countries today. He will discuss current developments, before sharing his impressions about what lies ahead for Syria in particular.
He has spoken often in the media on these topics and has commented on Australian policy.
Professor Bowker’s connections with Syria extend over 40 years, both as a diplomat and as a UN official, and more recently as an academic focussed on issues of political, economic and social change in the Arab world. He is a former Australian ambassador to Jordan, Egypt and Syria.
Professor Bowker is now an Adjunct Professor at the ANU Centre for Arab and Islamic Studies.
